Obviously the most widely know way to ingest marijuana is by smoking it. You can smoke marijuana in many fashions. Some prefer to roll a joint or blunt, the difference being a joint is rolled in a cigarette paper and a blunt is rolled in a cigar wrapper/leaf. Others prefer a pipe or water pipe, bong for slang. There are some other methods that are less common such as gravity bong but they are not widely used due to their cumbersome nature. Each person has their own preference when it comes to smoking their medicine as marijuana is special in that it can effect each individual in a different fashion. Until the federal categorization of schedule I drug is removed, no research can be done to figure out exactly why this is. Please support delisting of Marijuana as a Schedule I drug to Schedule II, which would then allow for medicinal research by approved companies, colleges and research organizations to finally get concrete, scientific evidence regarding Cannabis and THC, as well as the CBD's and other chemicals this miracle plant naturally produces.
The lesser know methods of taking your medical marijuana include vaporization and eating it, or edibles.
Vaporization
Vaporization basically takes your cannabis and heats it up to a predetermined temperature. During this process a vapor, or water mist, is generated. The vapor can be put into a balloon or inhaled directly depending on the vaporizer you have. HGoM recommends the Volcano vaporizer simply because it is the best on the market, bar none. It is worth noting some of the lower end model vaporizers DO NOT WORK. Take time to research any model you are considering before purchasing it. Most shops will not accept a vaporizer after you have used it, no matter if you like it or not.
Edibles
Edibles are a very effective way to ingest your marijuana because it is processed in a more thorough fashion thus more THC is put into your blood stream. With that said it is worth noting if you are a new patient and are eating something containing THC for the first time it is HIGHLY recommended that you set aside a 4-8 hour chunk of time so that you can ensure the high does not overwhelm you. Eating your first edible has been known to throw some for a loop, take precautions so your not put into a bad situation after consuming your edible. Edibles can range from brownies to caramel candy, the sky really is the limit when it comes to this. Cooking with hemp and marijuana has been a time honored tradition until the 1930's when the government decided to ban it in the United States. The oils produced from the seeds is the healthiest in the world, far healthier than any of the commonly available cooking oils in our local supermarkets. HGoM's recommend method of getting the THC into your edible is to create a butter out of your marijuana, or purchase cannabutter from us or your designated caregiver. Cannabutter is very easy to use and just plain wonderful as it can be used as your normal butter, no matter the dish.

"Cannabutter" or "marijuana butter" is a butter-based emulsion which has been infused with cannabinoids. This is achieved by heating the raw cannabis along with butter and allowing the cannabinoids to be extracted by the fat. The equipment necessary for the manufacture of cannabutter can be as simple as a sauce pan and spatula or as complicated as a double-boiler, or slow cooker, cheese cloth or tea strainer and funnel. |

Disclaimer: Edibles work very differently than smoking or vaporizing your medication. Because of this, how much medicine you consume on a regular basis, as well as, body weight and individual needs of the patient, the effectiveness of edibles is varied. Hope Caregivers of Montana makes no expressed or implied guarantee on how effective edibles will be for each of our patients. Make no mistake, we go out of our way to make the best edibles we can and strive for perfection, but its a process of elimination and each patient needs to experiment with how much works for them.
We are currently working on digitizing our recipe book and hope to have it posted online in the near future.
